Nate’s Mix Tape Monday – 08/30/2010 – Aerosmith

Nate’s Mix Tape Monday

Featured Song: Flesh

by Aerosmith

It’s Monday, and Nate’s Mix Tape Monday has been one thing you’ve been looking forward to start the week with right?! Well I’ve recently been on a huge Aerosmith binge. Aerosmith is a very likable band by almost anyone. I’ve never really met anyone who doesn’t like Aerosmith, and if you’re going to be that one person who says Nate, I got bad news for ya, I despise Aerosmith’s greatness… Well just stop here and wait until next Monday, I’ll have something for you. In the meantime, this is Flesh by Aerosmith on their Get a Grip album.

You know how I talk about the mind connecting experiences with music? (For those of you that don’t…CLICK HERE and you need to visit more often!) Well I’m connected with this album as well as Big Ones to my homeschooling days. I used to listen to these albums all the time when I did my work so when I listen, I get reminded of that.

Do any of you have any connections to Aerosmith? Let’s hear it! Enjoy… FLESH

Nate’s Mix Tape Monday – 7/19/10 – New Found Glory

Nate’s Mix Tape Monday

Featured Song: 2’s & 3’s

By: New Found Glory

I apologize for missing a couple of Monday’s! This week we have an ultimate high school song for me. I absolutely love it every time this song comes on my iPod. This album was a soundtrack to my high school years, I can vividly remember walking down the halls blasting this is my disc man (remember those?!). New Found Glory is without a doubt the kings of pop-punk.

Enjoy, and remember….

STUPID GAMES ARE FOR STUPID PEOPLE! Sing it loud and proud.

PS: this YouTube video is wrong it was actually released on Nothing Gold Can Stay.

Nate’s Mix Tape Monday – 6/28/2010 – Good Old War

It’s been a crazy week! World Cup soccer has been keeping me company, and I recently worked my last day at my internship. At this point, I’d like to just sit back in a nice soft comfortable chair with my headphones softly whispering into my ear with some pure acoustic magic.

For this week, I’m going to go that route, and also incorporate a track from my review of Good Old War’s album “My Name’s Sorrow” (See it HERE). I love this song, the lyrics, the soft guitar and the all around melody. I’ve been told I often enjoy sad songs, but I’m here to tell the people who think that: the lyrics aren’t the only aspect of the song from which I derive it’s meaning. Personally, I connect to the melody and the “feel” of a song before I even pay attention to the lyrics. I’m sure it’s different for everybody, which is awesome because it gives me stuff to talk about with people.

Check it out, here’s Good Old War’s “My Name’s Sorrow” off their self titled album. The quality in this video basically sucks and I apologize for that. Please go purchase the song from iTunes.

Nate’s Mix Tape Monday – 5/24/2010 – Lower Definition

Nate’s Mix Tape Monday

Featured Song: Pueblo Cicada
by Lower Definition

I figured it would be appropriate to reiterate the greatness of Lower Definition with my Nate’s Mix Tape Monday entry for this week. This week our feature is actually a double hitter of some of my favorite contributions to the music industry. One being obvious, Lower Definition’s front man, Matt Geise (see my interview with him HERE) and also, another man who has been featured on a previous mix tape entry, Jonny Craig front man of Emarosa (see that entry HERE).

Jonny Craig does guest vocals on this epic track, and it’s probably one of my favorite songs that feature Jonny Craig in any of his projects/guest vocals. He comes in for his verse of the song very powerfully, it’s a surge of straight up adrenaline and inspiration.

Lower Definition is such a good band, I strongly suggest checking out the full album the band has decided to deem this track’s home, The Greatest of All Lost Arts which is available through iTunes.

(This is their old banner for the release of this album, but it will take you to their myspace if you’re interested.)

Nate’s Mix Tape Monday 5/17/2010 – Further Seems Forever

Nate’s Mix Tape Monday

Featured Song: New Year’s Project
by Further Seems Forever

It’s that time of the week again! The one and only thing to look forward to on Mondays right?! This week Nate’s Mix Tape Monday features “New Years Project” by Further Seems Forever. The lead vocals of this beautiful melodic track might sound familiar to you…

Guess it yet? It’s Chris Carrabba founder of Dashboard Confessional… Whoa did you hear that? Just by typing his name I heard thousands of girls screaming. Carrabba is known for his romance driven lyrics (negative and positive) which allows him to be welcomed into the hearts of all of us looking for love or had love taken away.

Further Seems Forever brings Carrabba’s talent backed up by some excellent musicians who create such amazing music to compliment him. After Carrabba left the band, they didn’t stop there. They recruited another one of my favorite front men, Jason Gleason.

Unfortuneatly for us, Further Seems Forever hasn’t been the same since Gleason, similarly to Carrabba, left the band. Further Seems Forever was such a great band they still rank quite high on my talent list.

Here’s New Year’s Project by Further Seems Forever… Enjoy!

Nate’s Mixtape Monday -5/10/10 – Yesterday’s Rising

Nate’s Mix Tape Monday

Featured Song: Sidewalk Remants
by Yesterday’s Rising

This week’s feature is by Yesterday’s Rising it’s called Sidewalk Remants. I love this band’s sound, it’s very unique and I think the drums were recorded perfectly. Throughout both their EP and their full length called Lightworker, the drums sound awesome and their sound just gets me going. This band disappeared a few years ago and I’m very disappointed because I think they would have grown to be great.

After a little bit of research, I was told by my friend that they did officially break up and the lead singer will now be the new front man for Chiodos. I think he might fit pretty well in that band but I would much rather him play in Yesterday’s Rising.

Stay tuned next week for the next feature for Nate’s Mix tape Monday!

Enjoy….

Connection, experience, passion… What do you connect to?

Everyone who is a music fan connects somehow. From rage to love, music provides it all! There is something for everyone, and the best part is I could listen to a song and connect with it totally differently than you. The artist could write a song about something they were feeling, but it can be interpreted so many different ways it’s truely a universal tool to connect to our emotions.

I’d like to dedicate this post to a song that I think is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. Maybe you will connect with it the same way, or maybe not. You will probably see a lot of mentions about this band in future posts because they are one of the most dynamic bands I’ve ever heard. They began their music career in what I would call a post hardcore influenced sound. And now they are creating absolute beauty like the song I will get to later in the post. The band is Thrice. This band has grown with me starting in high school and every album has been an influence to me in some way.

They came up with a genius idea, they have 4 EP’s that collectively form a 4 disc collection called “The Alchemy Index” each EP is dedicated to Earth, Air, Fire, and Water (no Captain Planet is not part of this post. What was with the Heart dude in that show? Seriously? Heart? OH NO A BEAR IS COMING AFTER ME, DON’T WORRY GUYS I’LL MAKE HIM LOVE US!” – anyway back to the post). The EP is flawlessly connected with the elements, you really do get a sense of each element as you listen. The song that I have deemed “The most beautiful song ever” is from the Air EP.

The song is called “Silver Wings” I believe the vocals on this track are absolutely brilliant. The melody and harmony that Dustin Kensrue applies to the breath taking background is genius. This song is only 2:11 and it is very simple, but it is absolute, pure connection for me. And the part that gives me goosebumps every time is in the last 40 seconds of the song…

“And after all of this, I am amazed. That I am cursed for more than I praised.”

Brilliant, the beautiful harmony fades away so naturally, it leaves you feeling extremely calm. Please, check this song out it’s 2:11 of your time, turn all background noise off. I strongly recommend purchasing this song, it’s available on iTunes and playing it on a stereo system (or at least something better than computer speakers, will give you the experience much better. This YouTube video does not do it justice, it lacks body).

Enjoy the experience…. Hold on tight, take a few breaths because they are about to be taken from you, melodically…
